Wmc is not about storage or memory, but about the capacity for controlled, sustained attention in the face of interference or distraction. Wmc should be tested for both storage and working aspects. Both mathematical equation (true or false) as well as remembering a word like dog . Shadow (repeat what you hear) in the attended input coming in through your left ear, and ignore the unattended input in your right ear. Name of the participant is mentioned in the unattended channel. People with low wmc are more likely to notice their name. If you have high wmc, you have better attentional control. Primacy effect: initial items in a list are likely to be remembered because you had the time to rehearse them, and were able to be transferred to the ltm. Recency effect: items at the end of a list are more likely to be remembered because most recent items still exist in your wm.
