The patient hm: tumors, alcohol abuse, etc. Symptoms: definitions: anterograde amnesia (aa) is the inability to learn new things or remember information learned after the onset of amnesia, retrograde amnesia (ra) is the difficulty in remembering events that occurred before the onset of amnesia. Alzheimer"s disease: wider range of memory impairments than other amnesic populations, memory steadily deteriorates in the early stages, then cognitive impairments follow. Is stm disting from ltm: many patients with profound ltm deficits but with intact stm, task to test this. Digit span many amnesiacs are as good as normal people. Possible to have a normal conversation with most amnesic patients.
