Sperling discovered this almost by accident. he thought he was dealing with short term memory until it seemed it wasn"t. Report the ashing of letters - you can only recall one or two letters. In less than one second you can lose a signi cant amount of memory. St memory works in seconds, not within one. this iconic or sensory is a snapshot and as soon as you move you get another snapshot. And we put it into a seamless view of the world.
