Why might the study of gene & personality be controversial: ideology: the traits of a individual is determined by a speci c gene, eugenics: elimination of certain unwanted gene through select breeding. Di erence between people due to a certain cause ( in percentages) due to genetic di erences, this does not mean that the environment plays no role in modifying the trait: even though some observed di erences among people can be. Heritability: amount of phenotypic variance in a group due to genotypic variance. Phenotypic variance: refers to observed individual di erence, such as height, weight, or personality. Environmentality: amount of observed variance due to environment: nature-nurture debate: the arguments about whether genes or environments are more important determinants of personality. Behavioural genetics (bg) methodologies: family studies examine correlations between: Monozygotic (mz) twins: identical twins, share 100% of their genes. Dizygotic (dz) twins: fraternal twins, share 50% of their genes.
