Once induction happens, nmda receptors are not important. Fragile memory representations (short term, labile), consolidation, stable memory representations. If you administer nmda antagonists, ltp will not occur. Ampa receptors have a simple but equally important role, mediate fast excitatory transmission. Once the ltp is induced, nmda receptors no longer play a role. Reciprocal connections: anatomical connectivity with other visual regions, respond to specific types of objects, respond to the visual stimulus. Hebbian modification: strengthens the reciprocal connections between neurons that are active at the same time. The strengthened connections of the cell assembly contain the engram for the stimulus presented later on. After learning, partial activation of the assembly leads to activation of the entire representation of the stimulus. Before stimulus presentation, those connections are relatively weak. The fact that those neurons will respond differently when stimuli/related stimuli are. The drug will wear off if injected in the pre-sample phase by the choice phase.
