Primates with large social groups tend to have larger neocortex (relative to rest of brain) Supportive evidence social pressures are what has selected for larger brains. When experimenters know subjects payoffs, people are willing to share some money. When experimenters do not know subjects payoffs, people are a lot more selfish. Generosity did not evolve but is culturally acquired. Confuses functional and developmental causes (different levels of analysis) This behavior is maladaptive, and cannot be explained by evolutionary hypothesis (or at least reputation) evolutionary lag. Assumes that human mind is used to dealing with anonymous one-shot interactions. Cooperation sentiments evolved for reputational or other direct benefits, and adaptive on average, but these particular instances are maladaptive. Not no take advantage of opportunity to cheat.
