The question of what an emotion is is controversial within the cognitive science community. The rst is one that focuses on feelings. The other focuses on the judgments we make. What are the components of an emotion: the feeling plus the judgement, just the feeling. Some things that seem related when we think about emotion (but may not constitute emotions) Temperament (affective styles that have early onset and are possibly genetic) Attitudes towards to certain types of things. Ex. some people are happy and others are not so much. Emotions are states not traits an emotion is a relatively brief episode of coordinated brain, autonomic and behavioural changes that facilitate a response to an external or internal event of signi cance to the organism .
