A few months; they can resume normal lives. Delusions, halluciantions, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized or catatonic behaviour, negative symptoms at least 1 month but less than 6 months. Schizpaffective disorder and depressive or bipolar with psychotic features have been ruled out with good prognostic features; without good prognostic features; with catatonia. An uninterrupted period of illness during which there is a major mood episode (must including depressed mood) 2 or more; absence of major mood episode. Symptoms that meet criteria for a major mood episode are present for the majority of the total duration of the active and residual portions of the illness. In addition to the presence of a mood disorder, there have been delusion or hallucinations for at least two weeks in the absence of prominent mood symptoms. The presence of on or more delusions with a duration of 1 month or longer. Criterion a for schizophrenia has never been met.
