Goals: identify recurring themes and patterns, capturing the spirit of the topic of study. Challenges: large amount of data, various formats of data. Data preparation: transcription: manually converting audio/video data into text, coding: reducing large amounts of data into smaller, more easily managed parcels. Assigning portions of text to an overarching theme/concept that reflects the meaning of the selected passage.
