Competing for power, class struggle between the haves and have nots creating equality. This is wrong and unfair; at the end of the day, everybody should be equal in terms of access to wealth and resources. Things exist in society for a reason, a function. They argue that equality is dysfunctional, its to give people the same equal opportunity to excel and the ones who choose to excel to do so, and the others don"t. If you make one thing equal, everything should be equal according to functionalists which is why they think prisons should be equal as well. Functionalism and conflict theorists are complete opposites; conflict theorists are conspiracy theorists, while functionalists are na ve since they don"t count factors like social inequalities.
