SOAN 2120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Stanley Milgram
Document Summary
40 male subjects differing from all ranges of education and employment level. Asking some subjects to be "teachers" and others to be the "learners" Study where one subject would shock another subject with a numerous amount of shock-strength options. The teacher would read a series of pairs of words and the subject would be tasked with remembering. The subject would then be tested - getting the answer wrong would illicit a shock. A substantial amount of the teachers took great lengths under tension and great emotion to tell the authority that they were not sadistic and would not continue hurting the learner with electric shock. Before leaving the laboratory, teachers were reconciled about the experiment, how the learners were indeed not being shocked and then were allowed to meet the learner in a friendly environment.
