We focus on the western area because they had one of the most dramatic geographic changes. (e. g. war and the great depression, immigration) Pre-capitalist, pre-industrial england & western europe: changes involving capitalism, post wwii, colonialism, christianity & capitalism, foraging & pastors groups rather than families. It was men hunting and women gathered and took care of the children. (meant that the living arrangements were more than the context above. Mid 18th century: labor demands dictated how many persons were in the household, they have to work now for someone else. It is harder for a man to marry upward. Sometimes seen as a taboo: equal among the working class for both sexes, for those who did not have property, marriage may have been among equals due to the fact that they already have everything they need. It had to be heterosexual as politics and family got sexualized.
