Document Summary
Sociology midterm review (1) social inequality (aka social stratification) Social inequality: the uneven distribution of rewards and resources in a society. The richer countries do worse in many social problems ((math, homicide, imprisonment, teen births, trust, obesity etc. ) Health and social problems are worse in more unequal countries. All people in levels of hierarchy have similar problems (infant deaths, single mothers etc. ) Child well being is better in more equal countries. Average welling being of society is not related to national income and economic growth. It is important in poorer countries, not like canada. Fathers income is more important in uk, usa, whereas scandinavia and such the fathers income is not that important. Social evaluation anxiety (worry about how we are seen and judged ) Negative health effects (drug abuse, obesity, mental illness etc) Negative human capital (child wellbeing, high school drop outs, literary scores etc) Negative social relations (imprisonment, trust, child conflict etc)
