Slavery was not abolished until late 1880s. In brazil its not black vs white. Brazilians don"t call as many people black as north americans. Racial categories differ among geographical areas even though the person looks the same. No meaningful biological differences or genetic differences between races. Only superficial physical traits that cause people to differ. Some people say she shouldn"t define people through race. Should celebrate history during the whole year not just for a month. A type of segregation in a way. Is very limiting to talk about people in terms of just race or religion. Is important to study to all types of inequalities and the correlations to the disadvantages people have because of it. That which people perceive as real becomes real in its consequences. Apply the concept of racialization to ethnicity as well as race. If someone has an accent they may be racialized depending on where they are from.
