Document Summary

Observation of nurses during shifts in 5 clinical settings in el salvador. Not a nurse so could not take part in it. Something in between, not actually participating as a nurse but not detached. The kinds of questions - more open ended. Can get them to say more or what they mean. Need to have more of a friendly relation. How this worked in the research on nurses" working conditions. Not as large a group as surveys. The participants may or may not know each other. Try not to have people in positions of power over others, would impact how they behave in the group. Would be unusual to tape participants (people are not always comfortable with it) Need to keep the anonymity of the participant. Whole point was to see what their life was like as nurses in those countries. Enable you to see things you would not get in 1 in 1 situations.
