Research shows that women are most likely to experience the severest forms of violence and are more likely to be killed by men within the context of a heterosexual relationship. In 2004, the spousal homicide rate against women was 5x greater than men. Physical assault level 1 pushing, slapping, punching and face-to-face threats. Domestic violence refers to any act or omission done or not done to a partner: ex: destruction of personal property, public humiliation, etc. Couples under 25 are at a greater risk of spousal violence while those over 45 are not. Lloyd (1997) suggests that women who are victimized by their spouses within the home are not protected from such abuse when they are at the workplace (will happen there too)
