One of the rst people to say that something personal like suicide can be caused by social things outside of the individual and can be caused based on ones surroundings. He found that men commit suicide more than women: some of these causes are sociological such as men are taught not to express their emotions or show how they are feeling. Altruistic: integration is strong, egoistic: integration is weak, fatalistic: regulation is strong, Integration is how much you get involved. Too much integration can cause stress and overwhelming feelings (altruistic suicide), however too little integration can cause loneliness and a lack of integration (too much alienation) Durkheim studied how one"s surroundings can affect one"s decision to commit suicide (doesn"t necessarily have to be because of one"s mental state due to biology) The chicago school theorists started to study things on a wider scale. Looked at geographical patterns in why crime happened in certain areas.
