What people believe they know based on what they see on tv. Percepions and outcomes: the efect the media and tv shows have had on real life percepions of court cases. The popularity of csi in paricular- brought science and invesigaion to the screen, more emphasis on forensics. Juries and vicims now demand more evidence, dna, etc. Juries expect to see evidence like on csi. Csi efect coned by journalists in robert blake case the public now think they know more than the police and legal system lawyers now ask potenial jurors if they watch csi. Technological: emphasizes how tech works and communicates- images, sound bites, mostly done in communicaion studies. Social construcionism: spector and kitsuse 1977, looked at social constructs of problems/ issues, subjecivist approach, looks at the language used to talk about a social problem, how deviants are constructed, concepts: Claim- statement that tries to persuade the audience to take a social problem seriously- use of language.
