Going to look at hacking and various ideas about cyber bullying. Hackers individuals with an interest in technology who use their knowledge to access computers and devices with or without authorization from the owner. Hacking is deviant but not always malicious: not malicious people testing security parameters of hardware and software (intention is legitimate, if not encouraged) Emergence in the early 1980s computer technology and bulletin board systems (bbs: dial up access and asynchronous bbs communication, begin to explore the capabilities and limits of computers. Late 1980s us business demanded legal action computer security industry emerged with warnings (ex. virus software companies: clear sense that hackers are constructed as a criminal threat. 1990s emergence of the internet, e-commerce, and vast global network (opportunity structure was widening dramatically: hacking becomes more sophisticated, hacking community grew, increasingly global, criminal minority capitalized on proliferation of targets.
