Economic elite (bourgeoisie) create law to protect the capitalist & their interests. Poor& marginalized (proletariat) deviate and resist because of alienation & deprivation. In response to alienation, to make way in capitalist system, considered deviant. If the president of usa is part of the powerful, can draft laws that will benefit his economic system laws oppress and control the lower class: wealthy are rarely criminalized. They have done something that threatened someone who is more powerful, has property. Largely unemployed before they got in prison.
