They are a bit odd, violates some social norms, diagnose or label the individual with some type of health problem. We know how power is important for the stickiness of label so someone who is a psychologists diagnosing the person means labelling. People who act withdrawn , who mumble, or who hallucinate out of appropriate context. Symptoms can be caused by other factors (stress, exhaustion, monotony, drug use, etc. ) he says people are getting misdiagnosed. He tells you that this misdiagnosis, the label, actually makes people mentally ill. Critiques: insufficient evidence re: labelling leads to mi. we don"t have evidence to prove his point. Mi leads to devaluation and discrimination: view shared by those who are ill. people who are suffering know this and aware of this problem. Impacts social relations: manage stigma via secrecy (not telling people), withdrawal or aggressive educating of others. Strained relations with others leads to negative outcomes.
