Deviance involves violating norms that have been accepted into society. Deviance specialists are different from criminologists, they focus on criminal and non criminal forms of deviance. Criminologists are those who exclusively focus on criminal forms of deviance. Subjective views of deviance claim that there is no shared observable characteristic that can clearly tell us who or what is deviant and who or what is normal: distinction between the two is dualism. Mores- standards that are often seen as the foundation of morality in a culture- such as prohibitions against incest or homosexuality- if you violate these norms you may be considered evil or immoral. Consensus view of law- wherein the law is perceived as arising out of social consensus and then is equally applied to all, is only one of the possible views of crime and law, Con ict view- social power perspective- perceive that the law is a tool used by the ruling class to serve its own interests.
