Theories do not exist in vacuums, they do not have nite ends, a lot of ow between them. Apply various aspects of theories to various crimes. Integration comes in multiple ways (brings theories together, link them) *end to end model: macro > middle > micro. *fully integrated model: concepts borrowed, put together in a new way. Some argue against integration (hirschi) and instead for development of new theories. *some want to keep their theories to themselves Social control + strain + social learning + labelling. Routine activities theory + low self control. Avoids inherent biases; theoretical components arranged to complement each other. Allows researcher to more closely examine relationships between variables. Can outline sequential and development stages of delinquency. Aultman & well ford 1979 - integrated models will increase ability to understand variation in delinquency. Colvin & pauly 1983 - integration will provide etiological explanations of delinquency involving qualitative and quantitative methods.
