SOC 2760 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Culpable Homicide, Homicide, Crown Attorney
Document Summary
One of the most amazing features of homicide is the vast array of responses it can elicit from members of society, depending on the time or the place in which it occurred, those involved, their history and what happened. Recall, that we began this course with the assumption that homicide was one of the most serious crimes that could occur. Be the judge activity and discovered that it was not as simple to judge homicide as you might think. However, even among this group of criminal justice actors, not all homicides are treated equally. The modern legal system is a large bureaucratic machine, processing killers according to a standard set of procedures, but the results it generates are still far from uniform (p. 10). The last three units of the course focus on the variability in how society and its members respond to homicide.
