Evil became a way of understanding deviance (becomes a metaphor) That there was a demon forcing this individual to commit these violent and deviant acts. There were many named liable for labeling as a witch. Women could be labelled as witches because they gave birth to a child with a birth defect. Because of the life expectancy a lot of these people being prosecuted and labelled witches were likely youth. We had a lot of problems with witch hunts.
