Week 2: history and cases in court (stats) There is a difference between criminals and non-criminals. Justice seen as getting criminals off the street. Speed getting criminals off the street as quickly as possible and getting them out of prison as well. If we deal with it quickly it acts as a deterrent. Fact-finding few if any errors in the system. It is okay if you obtain evidence illegally. Reducing criminals is the number one priority and that justifies the means to get there. Punishment is and acts as a deterrent. Presumption of guilt if the police identify you as being responsible then you must be responsible. Officials they do not make mistakes. You must have done it if they have arrested you. Errors the assumption is that there are a few or no errors. Legal rights we want to minimize legal rights of those accused of crime because they impede investigations.
