Document Summary

Colin had a brain injury because he was in a car accident as a child. Lockdown in prison in 2010, mass movement of inmates around the institutions. Correctional staff said this probably happened because he hit his floor when they tackled him, but the info from the officers did not align with the injuries, there was an investigation into the incident. It costs a lot of tax payers money. Almost all individuals who are incarcerated are eventually released into the community. Society"s values are constantly changing, and so are what we consider proper punishment. What happens inside custody is largely hidden. The number of clients processed and managed by the system is increasing. The availability of jobs in the criminal justice system is increasing. The public and elected officials are interested in corrections. Punishment"s role in modern society is not at all obvious or well-known. It is a problematic and poorly understood aspect of social life.
