Police chases also make headlines: because they"re dangerous, there"s a lot of damage, and someone is likely hurt. Problem: press focuses on that this is how the police react all the time. They don"t inform everything that normal individuals would act the same in similar situations. Evaluation and policy: policy makers have the have an idea of what police do, can"t create policy if you don"t know all the aspects of police, police should not be able to do whatever they want. What is the function of police/what role do they play: we don"t know their role until their behaviour comes under fire. Impossible mandate to fulfil too many roles given objectives that you can"t obtain: contradiction police are given too much authority/you want them to engage in public service/help citizens. Need police to be experts in public relations: perceived role here"s a gun, use force.
