Construct a confidence interval for u1 - u2. Two methods: pooled variance, welches t assumes. A study investigated dopamine levels in schizophrenia patients who remained psychotic or became nonpsychotic after a neuroleptic (an- tipsychotic) treatment. Table 1 summarizes the information for the 25 schizophrenia patients in the study. The units are thousandths of nanomoles per millilitre-hour per milligram (1000 nmol/ml-h/mg). The corresponding boxplots are given in figure 1. X1 = 24. 25 s1 = 5. 27 n1 = 10. X2 = 16. 47 s2 = 4. 77 n2 = 15. Table 1: dopamine levels for psychotic and nonpsychotic schizophrenia patients. Very unlikely to see something like this (the boxplots) or more extreme if there wasnt a real difference between the group (ultimate conclusion made at the end) Is there strong evidence of a difference in the true mean dopamine levels? we may wish to test.
