On main point of criticism is that there was a thought to be on stable individual, and that classes (ie middle class were stable entities. They thought we were progressing toward a more enlightened state of being: four key features of the theory, contrary to liberal philosophy there is no stable and rational individual. A postmodernist will talk about how markers of social identities are also discursive. There is no prior stable being prior to our entry to the social world. The individual is socially constructed in this framework: more than just the use of a framework or a code. Signs are going to shift as our institutions shift.
