Synthesized and secreted by fibroblasts, chondrocytes, osteo(cid:271)lasts epithelial (cid:271)ase(cid:373)e(cid:374)t (cid:373)e(cid:373)(cid:271)ra(cid:374)e : molecule, 3 polypeptide chains of procollagen intracellular, secretion and self-assembly into fibrils (1-12 m diameter) cross-linked by covalent bonds. Extremely tough due to: covalent h-bonds formed between molecules of adjacent row. Function to support the extracellular matrix (especially in connective tissues)
