Self-esteem = evaluating oneself as either good or bad as a result of comparing the self to other people. Externalising = personality style that involves acting one one"s immediate impulses and behaving disruptively and aggressively. Unrealistic high self-esteem!continue to fail as no need to improve. Internalising = personality style that involves intense fear, social inhibition and often depression. Overly low self-esteem!continue to fail, as cannot succeed and stop working. Self-recognition occurs at around 11 2 to 2 years of age with mirror recognition. Emphasise and praise effort to increase self-esteem. Types of play, development & importance of fantasy play for social. Fantasy play = play that involves making up and acting out a scenario. Collaborative pretend play = fantasy play in which children work together to develop and act out scenes. Rough-and-tumble play = wrestling and hitting, where no harm is done. Furthers understanding of social norm - understands plots. Fosters peer relationships and social skill development.
