Neural plate is evident 4-5 days post conception. 18 days: neural plate starts to fold into neural groove neural crest cells are here. 20 days: ectoderm growth+ pressure from underlying meso derm causes further groove formation. Day 21-24: neura groove closes = start of neural tube. Neural tube: cranial and caudal neuropores open connection with amniotic cavity closed by end of 4th wk. (little bumps- Neural crest formation: these cells give rise to peripheral ns. Vesicles: prosencephalon (forebrain) + mesencephalon (midbrain) + rhombencephalon (hindbrain) n. tube done end of 4th wk : 5th wk= 2 more vesicles: telencephalon (rest of forebrain) + :5-6th wk: pontine flexure between meten and myelen. 2 lateral in telen + 3rd in dience (surrounds thalamus) + 4th in rhombo (pons). Channels narrow over development at 3 areas @ ~ 6-7 wks: lateral vent (tele) interventricular foramina of monroe, midbrain (mes) cerebra aquaduct of sylvius, medulla central canal.
