ACB 334 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Lateral Corticospinal Tract, Primary Motor Cortex, Corticospinal Tract
Document Summary
List the funiculi of the spinal cord at cervical, thoracic, lumbar and sacral levels. Thoracic = less gray, lots of white matter. Sacral = biggest grey, very little white. There are 3 major long tracts in the ns: lateral cortico-spinal tract motor, posterior columns sensory (vibration, joint position, fine touch, anterolateral pathways sensory (pain, temperature, crude touch) All relay information for the contralateral side of the body. All know level of decussation to localize damage. All somatotopic distribution in cortex = homunculus. *1 motor tract meets this requirement: lateral cortic-spinal tract primary somatosensory cortex = cortical termination area for most primary somatosensory information. Primary motor cortex = cortical origin for most descending motor pathways; upper motor neurons. Leg is medial in both sensory and motor cortex. Face is more lateral to the hand, which is more lateral the head and neck. Locations of cell bodies in sc grey matter.
