Document Summary

Key concepts: there is evidence that life could have originated from the simple chemicals that make up biological macromolecules, all living organisms share a number of basic characteristics we consider to be attributes of life. Life is emergent: what we see as life is the result of atomic interactions and physical processes, however, living things are more than the sum of their parts, atomic interaction, can be fundamentally explained (biology, chemistry, physics, math) Remember the cell theory: all living things are composed of one or more cells, cells are the smallest units of living things, new cells only come from pre-existing cells by cell division. Using a modern scientific approach to examine the origin of life: read and make notes, think & reflect. Any other ideas on how life started: hydrothermal vents provide many of the same characteristics as the early earth atmosphere plus high pressure. This has also been replicated in the lab.
