Canadian modernism has 2 stages: early (first wave) It doesn"t reflect a stable and coherent world. It is a modernist response to the loss of that world. Modernist writers and poets imagined a radical break from the past because we no longer have a stable and coherent world. Mechanics of that response involve 3 elements: fragmentation. Juxtaposition to put two things side by side and leave it up to the reader to figure out how they relate to one another.
