Explain how changes in radix status a ect soil properties and processes. Electrons do not exist free in soil solution. Reduction and oxidation reactions coupled, hence the term redox. Redox involved the transfer of electrons from one atom to another. This transfer translates into a change in the amount of free energy in the system ( energy available to do work ) Eh: tendency of a pair of substances to donate or accept electrons. Through redox reactions, energy is stored or released. The hard reactions will have a certain amount of free energy associated with it, if you take oxygen hydrogen and electron you will give o energy (standard potential: the energy you give o ) Like speciation, the form in which an element is in, with the oxidation statues will change how it reacts with the environment, in uence things like solubility (which e ects weathering and nutrient availability)
