More carbon in the atmosphere than in plants. Theres a lot more carbon in soils than there is in the atmosphere. The amount of carbon uptake by plants is around the same amount of the carbon being released into the atmosphere. When soils get disturbed like deforestation, the cycle of carbon going in and out of the soil changes. Better management practices could make the net terrestrial uptake better as in human have the potential to take carbon out of the atmosphere or they can emit more into the atmosphere. Rate of decomposition of organic residues vs rate of mineralization of residue c. Topography: top of hills store less carbon because less vegetation less organic matter being put into the soil, lower slope have more carbon storage. Vegetative inputs: reduction of plant growth the reduction of soil carbon being put into the soil. Sandy soils will not hold as much carbon as the ner textures soils.
