POLS 237 Lecture Notes - Bourgeoisie, Proletariat
Document Summary
Marx wants to cut against the idea of free markets. Don"t represent a new form of freedom: capitalism is a continuation or liberalism. Bourgeois society: heightening or purification or intensification of historical modes of exploitation, creation of new markets and sites of exploitations. To deepen current forms of exploitation in markets and labour itself. Problems: capitalism is unique to creating the end of the economic system that exploits labour. Capitalism is distinct in turning labour into a commodity. Marx says capitalism is unstable: organization of the proletariat into a class and into a party is continually being upset between workers and themselves. Barriers exist: transition from socialism to capitalism. Forms of exploitation led to transition: communists have no interest apart from the communists. Most working-class movements are national at best. More industry specific, or even factory specific.
