Social cognition refers to how people think about themselves, and the social world; how they select, interpret, remember and use social information to makes judgements and decisions. This is the non-voluntary, unconscious and effortless thought processes that are used to filtered everyday information i. e. driving a car, navigation, walking. People use to organize knowledge about the social world around themes or subjects. Schemas that are applied to a group of people by race, gender or another identifying features are known as stereotypes: applied rapidly and automatically when we are presented with new individuals o. The content of our schemas is also influenced by our culture. People pay most attention to and best remember information that is important in a culture i. e. bantu herdsman have well-developed schemas about cattle because they spend lots of time with cattle.
