SLSC 398 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Protist, Polyphosphate, Defense Meteorological Satellite Program
Document Summary
It is required in molecules in the cytoplasm. It strengthens the structure of the proteins. Most of the sulphur compounds are soluble. Oxidizing bacteria that help to drive their reactions. H2s is oxidized and if there is light present they can use photosynthesis. Bacteria need special proteins in their membranes so they can deal with the acidity. Sulphur can be available from amino acids and other small molecules. Dmsp is produced in large quantities because the algae uses it as a regulator. The ocean salt is higher then in the cytoplasm, they increase the concentration of the cytoplasm as in their environment. When they die or get eaten the dmsp is relates into the ocean and breaks down into molecules and are volatilized into the atmosphere and it precipitates back down through rain. Decomposition of organic molecules releases sulphur like h2s. Mercaptans - used in biology to releases sulphurs through decomposition. It is used up by other bacteria present.
