Theory is the foundation of sociology & is a central tool we use to understand our world. These theories are based on questions of why the world is how it is & on ideas of its differences. Of how we view our social world: ethnicity, tech. , education, emotions etc. Theories involve: description describe content, what"s going on, the environment etc, reflection on what we just saw, analysis research, through seeing other people do something (punished or not) Society social system of interlocking/interrelated parts of social institutions. S. f. can be compared to human body (various systems) (ex. Strengths promotes stability (society is organized in terms of groups) Weaknesses overemphasizes that what"s being done is the greatest good for all. Even if success only applies to some people & not others. Society system of structures & relationships shaped by economy! Believe sociologists must discover, document & record recurrent patterns of power/class/gender relations.
