Document Summary

1st law of thermodynamics energy can"t be destroyed or made, only transferred or transformed. 2nd law of thermodynamics energy tend to spontaneously disperse, from being localized, ordered to becoming spread out entropy= disorder life goes towards disorder reactions cause disorder: cells release heat. Exergonic: happen spontaneously, release of energy, favorable, break bonds. Endergonic: need energy, not favorable, make bonds. Coupled with an exergonic reaction, endogenic is possible. One bond has to break in order for new ones to form. Activation energy: amount of energy needed to start a reaction, even for exergonic reactions, enzymes lowers activation energy. Products released and enzyme returns to normal shape. Organic molecular like vitamin b1, that aid in catalyzing. Allosteric: allosteric activation, adp and p attach to enzyme to make it more active, allosteric inhibition, ctp attaches to enzyme to make it less active. Competitive: competitive inhibition attaches to active site and blocks substrate, non-competitive inhibitor attached to allosteric site and changes the enzymes.
