Persephone was responsible for things growing up from he ground so she was also a fertility goddess. Persephone is also called kore which means young girl . Tryptolemus spread the knowledge of agriculture to humans after being taught by persephone and demeter. There is an earlier near eastern story which is thought to be the story from which demeter might have come from. Damu was the son of duttur who was a demeter like figure (goddess of agriculture) Damu goes into the underworld and gets stuck there just like persephone. Dutter looks for him all around the earth and descends to the underworld. When she is looking for him the crops don"t grow but when she finds him they do grow just like demeter. Persephone was wondering around with her friends. Zeus plotted with hades on how to capture persephone.
