Views: inhabitants, odysseus is on the island of cercei (minor goddess witch). Cereci tells odysseus to consult the soul of tiresias (famous blind prophet of thebes) in the underworld. To get to the land of the dead he heads north. This is unusual because usually heroes go through caves to get to the underworld: witless shades, the people are described as spirits of their former selves. They are witless and don"t have mental capabilities: odysseus makes sacrifices and makes a trench. He pours the blood of sacrificed animals and the spirits rise up and long for the blood. When the ghosts drink the blood (power of life) they get their wits back and can talk again.
