Artemis (diana: nature, concerns/what she inspires, huning and wild animals. Someimes subversive odd god out, opposes what majority of the gods want doesn"t really like males, avoid males. Protectorus of the wild animals, and inspire hunters to kill them (helper and destroyer of hunters) Portrayed with wild animals: childbirth, along with hera and eileithyia. The universal goddess of childbirth got spun of to other goddesses: virginity and young maidens. In charge of young maidens (14-15 yrs old) They would go to artemis, leave the protecion of artemis before they got married. Artemis only hung out with young virgin hunters, takes virginity very seriously. Associated to be the special goddess of the amazon (opposite of patriarchal society) Amazons were independent of men: moon (selene) cf. Hecate in charge of the crossroads, also connected to the power of the underworld (sorcerer, devil) (another earlier goddess of the moon)
