Resulted in the passing of mercanile law amendment act. In contract law the sue of a seal represents consideraion: court won"t quesion the consideraion because of seal. American version injurious reliance: if you rely on a statement that results in a loss for you, you can sue, ex: teacher says you can have car but you got to buy 4 ires for car. You can sue for money of ires even though the agreement lacked consideraion. Canadian version promissory estoppel: can only use this as a defence, can"t use this to start a claim, ex: you would be stuck with ires, ex: rening lands and buildings. 2 years into lease, tenants wants to end lease. The landlord agrees to suspend the railway company"s maintenance on the building.
