Broad overall objective for a character throughout the play. Provides a through line and an arc for the character. A need is stronger than a want, and is usually a stronger choice because it creates more drive for the actor: obstacle. Obstacles can be physical or emotional or psychological. Romeo and juliet"s family grudge is a type of obstacle for them: actions, tactics. A character will use a certain action in order to get their objective, we switch actions/tactics when we feel it is not working anymore or not helping us get what we want: threatening actions/tactics.
