Document Summary
What affects weathering? off pieces or to chemically alter the rock. The rock composition and structure determines how easy or difficult it will be to break. The climate will affect how quickly weathering happens, swings of temperature encourage frost wedging and speed up the break-up or rocks. Climate is defined as being the weather patterns over 30 years. More rain will cause higher water levels and encourage erosion and transportation of sediment. The rain can also cause chemical changes to the rocks. Tropical climates are dominated by chemical weathering while cold climates are dominated by mechanical weathering. Both chemical and mechanical weathering are stronger when there is more precipitation. Some slopes are steeper and have more gravity pulling on the pieces. Topography is the orientation of the slopes, away or toward the sun and wind and rain. Vegetation , plant roots can create larger cracks between rocks and hold broken pieces in place, delaying the transportation.
