Document Summary

Style in rhetoric changes just like style in fashion and music does. Style characterizes what or who something/someone is. Your style often comes naturally to you. Style is not only in the writing. It is in the writer"s mind (e. g. liking the way a person"s mind works). Thought of in two ways: variation, option. We only generally become aware of a style as it becomes a style. Style is noticeable when it deviates from an expected norm. There are many options to choose from. There are particular aspects you have to use, but the rest are options that create your style. How we use our options determines our style. In order to understand style you must understand the options available to you. Types of options: diction, syntax, paragraphing, figures, coherence, entire work. Imagining you are writing to someone based on the form you want (e. g. writing to the queen will make you more formal).
